Fun Bobby Becomes Domesticated (hahaha jk)

I think everyone would agree that I am the least domesticated out of the group. Not in an "unfeminine/bad taste/was not raised right" kind of way......but only because all of my friends are way over acheivers and I don't have the patience that they do to achieve at cooking, baking, decorating, sewing. I'm serious.....I am not even motivated half of the time to even try to accomplish what they can because I have never met a group of this many people who are extremely good at everything they take on!

And frankly also, achieving in those things is not a motivator for me since I don't have anyone in my life to share the fruits of my labor with. I like to live my life in stages and right now my stage of life is "spend as much money as I can to collect clothes and that I 'need' to be attractively single and go out as much as possible to meet nice boys".....or somewhere along that line. As my married friend Libby has put it once "you should collect as many clothes as you can before you get married because once you get married you won't be able to buy as many." I love this quote, and I use it to justify most purchases I should not be making. Nonetheless, that huge digression was merely meant to explain that I'm not domesticated not because I am not capable, but because I've always been a crammer in school and in life, and it is very differently than how my more organized friends approach their lives. Thus, right now I am cramming all of my singleness and in a few years I will probably have to start a new blog describing my disastrous efforts to "cram" learning how to cook/bake/clean/decorate/sew at the mercy of the poor souls who will be my future husband and children...aka my guiney pigs for life.

I truly admire all of my friends' amazing abilities. I am daily floored by how beautiful every one of Kiki's apartments are.....and I also brag to my friends at work that she was the one who baked the amazing cupcake they are eating. I am beyond impressed with Ann's headband creations and booming Etsy shoppe (I just really wanted to spell it that way). Mitzi's (and also Kiki's) sewing endeavers from her curtains to Katie's present are seriously in my mind creations of God because there is no way I will ever be able to do that. Katie's cooking and baking- well, let's just say that every time I read her blog I seriously wish she would adopt me and I am really jealous Mike gets to go along for her cooking adventures. Both my friends Shellie and Libby seem to be able to pretty much do anything with ease, which amazes me all the time....and is also why I am always asking for advice!

Anyway, this weekend I got a little domesticated myself. And here are some of the results that ensued .....all Fun Bobby style :)

Decorating:
I found an AMAZING painting at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I only paid $80 and it is something I know I will keep for life. If anyone knows me I think they will agree it is totally me and meant for me!!

VOILA!!!

wait, wait- here's it close up

and even closer!!!
I LOVE it- it's elegant, regal, asian meets tiffanys meets modern
You see this painting was perfect for me because I have been known to be obsessed with cherry blossoms. Before I had this painting, I had a picture of cherry blossoms that I had taken in April 2008 in DC up on the mantel that I had printed on to a canvas. Now this picture is sitting on top of some of my books in my room until it finds a more permanent home.

Groceries:
I also did some grocery shopping- here is what I saved tons of money on!!

All of my favorite wine was on a major sale! Iknow that these prices will never be any lower, so I had to stock up. ($6.99 for the Chauteau St. Michelle Riesling normally $8.99 and $9.99 for the Kate & Cassie Sauvignon/Cab blend normally $10.99 at Target) It was embarassing because I orginally attempted to buy these at 11:56am on Sunday. Yep, had to get rejected since you aren't allowed to buy alcohol before noon on Sunday in the Bible Belt. Believe it or not, I have never bought this much wine at one time just for myself.

Cooking:
I also did some minor cooking this weekend. Here was my Sunday lunch: butternut squash soup with lite whole wheat toast (tea sandwich size) with part skim ricotta cheese and black raspberry jam. Of course I did not make any of it from scratch- the Fun Bobby household is purely an assembly unit. The soup was from Campbell's V8 boxed soups (the butternut squash one is amazing, and I am thorougly obsessed with it). The lunch was just so colorful I had to take a picture of it! Estimated calories: 250. Estimated cost $2.70.

So there you have it. My guide to being domestic while still getting those nights out and ever important shopping excursions in.

This Spells Trouble....

I am SO excited! It is less than 3 weeks away until my good friends Jessica and Cilla and I venture off to Cancun SITC style. I know it is going to be a blast because between Jessica living so far away in Chicago and Cilla being perpetually lost behind a stack of K-1s in Dallas, it will be a rare time for all of us to really get to spend quality time together!

Cancun really won't be an MTV style event for us girls, and here are some reasons why:

1) We are all anal accountants
2) We all like to have a good time, but none of us really has a wild side
3) We are all over the age of 25
4) We are all taking this trip to get away from crappy busy seasons, so all we want to do is relax
5) Did I mention that Jessica can't drink more than a couple of sips of alcohol? lol
6) We are all paranoid about safety and cleanliness

To expand on #6 some more, Cilla and I had a funny conversation that would only happen between two type A accountants over the age of 25. We were talking about whether or not we wanted to venture out to the downtown bar scene. We immediately agreed that we had no desire for crazy spring break style adventures. We were also talking about our safety in general while over there in light of all of the recent things that have been happening, especially kidnappings. Knowing full well from other experiences with Cilla and traveling with some of my other friends, there was one thing I knew for sure: a group of cute asian girls stick out like a sore thumb in non eastern countries. Cilla and I were both thinking the same thing.....

me: "and also yeah i am concerned about safety....esp since we are three cute asian girls together, some how i feel like that is going to spell trouble"

Cilla: "yeah, and let's be honest, we don't look cheap -- that sounds weird but you know what i mean"

me: "yeah! that is definitely along the lines of what i had in mind yeah i know we look like good ransom money for kidnappers haha"

Cilla: precisely

So, you can expect to see us drunk on the beach by our hotel, or hopping from hotel lobby to hotel lobby along the strip....meeting other eccentric tourists. You can expect to see a hungover fun boby at breakfast and crazy stories about the weird goop they used on our faces at the spa, but there won't be an Girls Gone Wild moments for this trio of friends!

I know these predictions about Cancun might seem disappointing for you, my readers, but you must remember that I WILL come back with stories. The great thing about Fun Bobby is that I find the oddest/craziest experiences in sometimes the most unexpected places....plus I create the fun wherever I am.....and you just simply can't plan for those kinds of nights :)

3 more weeks!! Can't wait!!

It's tax season!! (Single guys inquire within)

It's tax season- which means I'm going to start getting some random men calling me. You see some cultures do very well with arranged marriages; my mom believes that she is going to find me the perfect guy through her job doing personal taxes. People wonder why I am a little crazy sometimes, well if you knew my mom you would be thankful that I turned out as normal as I did :) I am of course just kidding but she really is one of the most interesting people that I know, and you will here many hilarious stories thanks to her.

You see, my mom does personal tax returns, so she meets people from all different walks of life. She also has a system where she screens younger guys based on income level and whether or not she thinks she would like him as a son in law. (In fact, she often likes the guys much more than I do....I'm pretty sure she wanted to trade me for this one client that she had.) Then she slyly mentions her daughter (aka Fun Bobby) and shows them a picture. How is that for invasive parenting! Last year I believe she passed out my number to about three guys. This year she has been talking up a couple that she has recently met. So boys, if you are dying for a date with me.....go see the little Japanese woman and she will make it happen.

A Collection of Stories From Girls Who Have Tendencies to Attract Weirdos (vol 1 of 1)

Two asian girls going out in Texas spells trouble....

Let me preface this by saying that I have decided to start a series about all of the interesting people I meet. They really are life's little gifts. For some reason, I am known to attract weirdos (I mean, opposites attract, right? Totally...). In fact, I am so known for meeting the strangest people, that my coworkers ask me every Monday morning if I have a story for them from my weekend. Weirdos, creepers, crazies, whatever you want to call them....if they are at the bar, they will find me.

I have recently discovered that my friend Cilla might also have a creeper magnet. Or perhaps it is the both of us together. Whatever the cause, I know the result always ends up in hilarious stories....ones so good you just can't make them up. Here are two that I would currently like to share:

The Trophy Hunter

One night C and I were at the Old Monk. Now, this is a pretty unintimidating, laid back kind of pub. We had just wrapped up a fun night hanging out at the sushi bar at Tei Tei when we decided to see where the night would take us. Well, the night took hold and held us, or more like C, captive to the interest of one "charming" man about 50 years young. Yep, the moment he saw C, it was over for us and our fun times at Old Monk. He had his eyes set on what I think he believed to be his trophy. However, C would have none of that! Every time he asked her a question, she responded with one ridiculous and random answer after another. Some of my favorites include when the man asked her what kind of Asian background she had, she told him she did not know but that she was born in Brazil and did not know her parents. The rest just gets more creative from there..... 30 minutes later, or maybe it was a blunt hint, he finally got the picture.

Oh it's Chinese New Year? I'll drink to that!

Another time C and I went out for what turned out to be an extremely fun night in Uptown. But, what was most memorable from this night was that while in a crowded bar filled with a sea of people, some Asian guy plucked us out of the crowd and was really excited to see Asian girls. However, he made it clear it was NOT because he wanted to date Asian girls.....ooooh no, he does not date Asian girls. LOL, well thanks for clearing that up because the whole reason we were there was to look for Asian boys. He proceeded to tell C his unsolicted opinion about Asian girls.....can we say aaaawwwkwwward and pigheaded?!

Also, it happened to be Chinese New Year that night and everyone and their mom and uncle and cousin wanted to go out of their way to wish us a Happy Chinese New Year (mind you, we are Korean and Japanese). It was hilarious....on one side I was impressed that people in Texas knew when Chinese New Year was because even I did not....and on the other side it was typical that they acted like we were the only Asian people they have seen and that they assumed the main reason we would be out on a Saturday night was to celebrate Chinese New Year. LOL, entertaining!

Awesome Friends: Part 2

(Mattito's birthday celebration last year, 2009)

I love to rave about my friends! I recently celebrated another friend's birthday, my friend like no other, Matt. I am thoroughly convinced that there is no one on earth remotely like him, which makes me feel honored to have him as a friend!

Usually every event Matt hosts is thought out to the very last detail (I have been to Viking Parties complete with roasted turkey legs and dragon bounce house and elaborate Halloween costume parties at his place) and his birthday is no exception. This year we met up at a Mexican restaurant in what I believe might be some part of Little Mexico in Dallas, and what Matt says is not the most "gringo friendly." Our party had over 20 people in it, and we were definintely the only native English speakers in the small restaurant....and in some cases the only English speakers at all. If that were not enough to stick out like a sore thumb, Matt also hired a mariachi band. Before you try to visualize this scenario, let me throw in the very important detail that Matt (pictured below), also got up and sang (very well I might add) the traditional songs with the mariachi band. Yep, I'm pretty sure that restaurant has not seen anything like that in all of its years of business. The whole restaurant was into his singing though! This is why you can see I always have a great time with Matt. :)

P.S. the neon green margaritas from my March 1 post were from this restaurant and they tasted as bad as they looked (and not in the good kind of way where you think you are drinking pure tequilla). I expected more from you, authentic restaurant!

Fun Bobby, Peartinis, and Kiki Tiger

I realize I have been gone a while, readers, but do not fret- I have been collecting stories for you!

Let's go back in time to late January to my birthday. Let me just say that my birthday comes with a lot of pressure to perform at my top potential party style. When you think about it, this is where it all began- Fun Bobby wouldn't be Fun Bobby if it weren't for birthdays (particularly the 21st). Well, I had little to worry about with my friends- when the whole gang gets together it snowballs into some crazy times!

The party began at Cyclone Anayas (home to some of Dallas's strongest margaritas- we recently discovered some margs that rival that but that will be in a future post). I chose this place because I have had so many great memories there. Cyclone Anayas is where I came after bad days at work, it's where I could look incredibly hot and get elbowed away from the bar by men on a Saturday night (it's predominantly a gay scene), it's also where I could go to get my tequilla fix and look sloppy (for the same reason as before), it's where I started out the infamous night before missing my Chicago flight, and it's where Kiki and I weathered a life threatening storm once.
We had some great Mexican food, and I made it my mission to down those margaritas (which is really challenging because they are fish bowl size!). That night we came up with a new nickname for Kiki- Kiki Tiger. You will have to ask her about it, although I don't think it has been christened enough.

After dinner came present time. Let me just say I have some amazing friends!!! Here is a preview of some of the gifts I got. Unfortunately I did not take pictures of everything, which I really regret!

This tresaured gift is from Mitzi. The bottle says "Who says this is water" LOL, an essential thing for a girl like me. I thought about taking it to work, but then thought against it since I sit next to our partner and she really likes pink. Mitzi also gave me some gorgeous earrings from Anthropologie that I wear all the time (they are very sparkly!)- I actually happened to have the same earrings in two different colors because I love them so much!

Kiki put together an adorable and very thoughtful peartini kit!!! (We had discovered this amazing drink the night before at Studio Movie Grill). It was pretty awesome, the recipe she printed out was perfecto (I tried many of them that night....sad to say the bottle didn't last me very long).

Here is the recipe below:

Peartini
2 parts Grey Goose La Poire (greatest invention ever)
1/4 part Amaretto liquor
1/4 part simple syrup
1/2 part lemon juice
pear slice for garnish

Shellie gave me this gorgeous vase that goes perfectly with everything else on my desk, and my roommate gave me the cute tea candle right next to it!

Ann gave me this adorable blue, black, and white headband that I love from her Etsy shop. http://theartisann.etsy.com/

Katie baked me a GIANT cupcake.....I mean GIANT. It was super delicious too. We couldn't ice it ....just because it was so big! But, it was the perfect after dinner birthday celebration dessert! I really wish I had a picture of it and I am disappointed and shocked I didn't take one. She also gave me a Starbucks card which I religiously used over the course of two weeks. Katie, you have no idea how much happiness that little 6oz cup brought me :)

The girls and I also tried some peartinis after dinner- it was quite the night!

I have the greatest friends!! Thanks for helping share my birthday!! :)

It's 5 o'clock somewhere.....right?

Helllooooooo!!! I just wanted to post a message, a tease really, that Fun Bobby is back and will be back to posting regularly very very soon! I have been collecting some great stories for you guys....so I thought I would just unnecessarily increase the suspense!

Here is a little visual hint about one of my stories:
