Serious People Who Make Me Laugh

I don't know why there are comedians that get paid because you don't have to look far to find humor. Just start a full time job with a bunch of accountants, and you'll find plenty of humor. I've never been surrounded by such a diverse group of weirdos, but they are especially hilarious when they are being serious. This is what I found at the client's breakroom today....you can't even make this stuff up.

In case the picture isn't clear enough for you to read, it says:

"MISSING
Any information regarding the whereabouts of this loaf of bread would be greatly appreciated. It was last seen on the counter in the 18 Main kitchen Tuesday afternoon around 2:30 PM"

HAHAHHAHA

Then there is a very detailed picture that I'm assuming the person googled of the loaf of bread. You can see that it is Pepperidge Farm Sourdough. I will admit that this is a more expensive brand of bread.

Apparently the woman who posted this is being completely serious. One of my coworkers saw her posting it up this morning and she was very upset about the whole situation. Little did she know that by some act of kindness, someone had stuck her loaf of bread in a drawer in the fridge. One of my other coworkers posted a note to the sign to inform her of this.

Happy Birthday to My Crazy Mexican!!!

Today is Mitzi's BIRTHDAY!!!! I just wanted to wish her an official happy birthday! This weekend we will be going to Lake Travis to celebrate her bachelorette, as well as her birthday! I know it will be just as fun as all of the other crazy memories we have together!

Just thinking about her birthday is already making me crave one of these.......

MMMMMMM!!!!

Cancun Crazy Part 3 (of many)

Day 2 of our trip went by much smoother. Now that we had Jessica, we were not going to let her out of our sight! That morning we woke up and got beach side massages. It was very relaxing (but we all agreed it wasn't the best massage we have had). This is the massage hut below:

The spa also had these amazing dried pineapple rings. They were the perfect amount of moist vs. crunchy vs. sweet. If anyone knows where to get these in the US (as well as salty banana chips) you must let me know!

After the massage we ate by the pool and spent the rest of the day at the pool. Determined to try to get at least buzzed, Cilla ordered us extra strong coconut drinks. I guess it worked because I passed out at the pool for about an hour and that is how I got really burned.

For the evening we were brave enough to venture out of the hotel. It was actually Jessica, wild child Cancun convict, that suggested interest in leaving the hotel. I will say I was least comfortable with the idea, as was evidenced by how rigidly I sat during the bus ride to the restaurant. However, our decision to venture out of the hotel turned out to be very worth it. We went to a restaurant called La Distilelria, and it was the most lively place we saw all week. So this is where all the fun tourists have been hiding! It was lots of fun! The food was fantastic, there was a mariachi band, and the drinks were.....well they still weren't strong- what's up with this town!!

Stay tuned for the story about the hot futbol player :)

Cancun Crazy Part 2 (of many)

Sorry to keep you waiting :), so where was I....

So we haven't heard from Jessica in an hour, it's getting dark, and Bernie's drinks are really not strong enough to make this situation any better. We debate whether or not it's time to start panicking. We have been pretty rational up until this point, but now we've just about reached our threshold and we have no plan. We decide to email Jessica's boyfriend in Chicago, who responds quite promptly . Within minutes he has called Jessica and Jessica has texted us back that she is very very soon to leaving the airport. Since we know she is safe, all we can do is trust that she will be at the hotel soon.

FINALLY - almost 6 hours from when we first entered this debaucle, Jessica is in our arms! Literally!! We are so happy to see her. She is extremely exhausted, but we make her explain everything (except for the ridiculous details that she keeps focusing on that have nothing to do with how she got into this mess in the first place!)

Here is her explanation of what happened:

She arrives in Mexico City and has asked the flight attendant and several airport employees if she has to go to customs. Everyone tells her that she does not need to go through immigration here, but that she will go through it in Cancun. Her departing gate to Cancun is right next to her arrival gate in the same terminal, so all she has to do is walk over to her gate and wait for her flight. When she gets to Cancun, during baggage check they discover that she had not gone through customs when she first arrived in Mexico City. She is told she simply can't go through customs in Cancun and so an investigation/questionnaire/police documentation process ensues. Luckily, two other US citizens from LA were in the same predicament. They were Hispanic and spoke Spanish, so they were able to help Jessica understand everything that was happening. Jessica was escorted from place to place in this process with an entourage of cops around her lol. She had to give statements, fill out paperwork (I think there is record of her with the police in Cancun!), and answer questions in the hours and hours she was there.....all this for what became her most sacred possession- the stamp on her passport! What an ordeal!

Cancun Crazy Part 1 (of many)

Dear lovely loyal readers (if any of you are still out there),

Thank you for your patience....I know I have abused you with the silence. See, the truth is I have actually had a lot of hilarious stories come about over the past few weeks. However, I think I really need a secret blog because if I were to really write my hilarious stories to the public with no discreetness, I'd probably offend a lot of people out there. But I'm sorry, people in the real world are just too funny, especially when you realize they are being serious about themselves :)

Okay, so back to people that I can make fun of - myself and my friends. I just got back from a much needed and amazing beach vacation in Cancun, Mexico. I feel so relaxed! As I peel another layer of skin off of my nose, I am reminiscing about the many many hilarious things I can write about (how's that for a great mental picture). I have realized that I am going to have to break this trip up into many pieces. Many, many dysfunctional hilarious tequila soaked blog pieces (actually unusual fact about this trip is that I really didn't feel even buzzed hardly at all).

But first, to put you in the mood, lets perform an exercise. Imagine yourself in a dark room. Now imagine a computer in front of you filled with rows and rows of tiny numbers in excel. Imagine that you are not allowed to leave this room, or eat, or use the bathroom until you carefully analyze every single number in that excel document. Imagine this is happening every day over and over again for months.

Then imagine one day, out of nowhere, someone takes you out of that room and brings you to this:

Is this heaven? Did I die while doing accounting? No, it's real live vacation!!! Sweet sweet glorious revenge!!! (okay this demonstration was exaggerated for sensational effect, but you get the picture)

Okay, to tell Cancun right, let's start from the beginning.

Day 1:

To say the first day was eventful would not do it justice. The first day in itself could take multiple blog posts, but I will do my best to not keep you in suspense.

7am: Our day starts at 7am where I promptly pick up Cilla to venture towards the airport. Cilla, who had gotten off work at 3am that day (yes that's right, 3am) and had not seen the outside world in a few days was very startled to find that it was cold outside. We pack up the car and head out to DFW airport. On the way we pass Texas Stadium without realizing that this will be the last time we see it since it will be demolished while we are in Cancun.

Cilla fills me in on what is going on with our friend Jessica, who is also traveling to Cancun from Chicago via connecting flight in Mexico City. Apparently Jessica's morning starts something like this (the texts have been paraphrased to the best of my memory):

"$#@%$ (insert cure words because I imagine she is freaking out) I'm running late, I'm about to miss my flight, I really might not make it! "

10 minutes later....

"made it past security, I'm at my gate, and I also got something to eat!" I think she also tried to insert a joke here which just makes me laugh just thinking about it. I don't think either of us were amused with the quick change in blood pressure we just felt.

Oh Jessica....... :)

Nonetheless, Cilla and I arrive at the airport. We park, get a great spot, they give us free water bottles, and the shuttle runs smoothly (unlike that time I missed my flight in Chicago). We check in and are surprised to be reminded that we get to check in luggage for free for international flights! Very exciting news. Everything is going so smoothly that I am completely anticipating something bad happening after this point. There had to be a catch somewhere.

We get on the plane and are surprised to find a couple in our seats. Ah hah! I'm thinking I've finally found the bad luck to balance out all the good we've had so far on our trip. Perhaps they've overbooked the flight? Perhaps there was some crazy glitch and all four of us have the same seat assignments? Perhaps we are on the wrong flight and were sold fake tickets by some scam? Any experienced traveler knows that there is never a smooth trip.

NOPE, turns out just a couple of morons decided to sit in our seats. I didn't think of that one. It turns out the couple (which consisted of a woman who looked much too old to be with the man next to her who literally looked like an overgrown kid) had booked seats on different rows, one in our row and one in the row ahead. The woman tries to pass it off that she had let her man take care of all of the booking and she just had no idea that he had screwed up the seating. Yeah right, anyone could tell that the man wasn't even smart enough to figure out a pay phone. (In his defense though to my own insult, I think pay phones are really confusing).

Regardless, I suggest a solution. We'd simply check with the other person who is originally booked to sit in between all of us and ask if they would not mind letting us all shuffle around to our preferred spots. Apparently this was too much for the over sized kid to understand. Trust me dude, I'm brilliant. Long story short, it worked out and Cilla and I even got a three person row to ourselves. Okay, everything is still going smoothly, surely something must go wrong soon.

Well, a few more hiccups occur along the way. There's an insanely annoying bathroom line scenario that really would be a waste of your time to explain...but it definitely involved a mother/wife with the greatest patience I have ever witnessed as well as my own bladder surpassing limits I did not know it was capable of as well as one of the slowest stewardesses I have ever encountered. You put those elements together.

Alas, we finally arrive at the Hilton resort, escape some more minor issues and finally get the glorious pleasure of seeing our fabulous room with the fabulous beach and the fabulous pool.

Here is the beach view from our room

and the amazing infinite pool with the beach behind it

and the amazing coconut drink (which hardly had any alcohol for Fun Bobby to detect)
Aaaaah, it's 1pm and we are sitting here in what seems to be heaven. Cilla is shouting out the words "I'm on vacation! I'm on vacation!" every few minutes and the light lackadaisical sound of the ocean waves fill in the background. I'm also trying to drown out the Mexican disco beach music that is playing on repeat in the background. It's 1pm, and Jessica will be here in only 3.5 hours. Life is good. Everything is going as planned.
We enjoy the rest of the afternoon soaking in the sun. Turning ourselves over on our lawn chairs like we are grilling a cheese sandwich. Then, sometime between 4 and 5 we get a text message from Jessica:
"I am going to be an hour or so late, I'm being stopped for not going through immigration and they are taking me to see a doctor outside the airport. Joe don't worry!!"
Ummmm........ ummmmm....... ummmmm.....
If anyone knows me they can probably literally see the panic racing through my head. What was this cryptic message. We didn't know what to make of it! How can she not have gone through immigration in Mexico City? Why is she going to see a doctor? Who is she with? Is she okay? Is she panicking? WHAT DO WE DO?? There were so many questions running through our heads.
Well, one thing's for sure- we knew we couldn't just sit there by the pool while our friend was in trouble. We go back to our room, start showering and getting ready for dinner. Jessica said she would be there in about an hour, so at least we can get ready so that we are not in the way when she gets in. We stumble around blindly, getting ready for dinner aimlessly. Meanwhile Cilla is also trying to communicate with Jessica to get more information out of her, but every message is more and more confusing and the hours are quickly passing by.
One message lets us know she is in another police station in Cancun. Another message lets us know that they have taken her to yet another one in the hotel zone to speak to an ethics committee. We can't understand why she was even removed from the airport to begin with. We don't understand what an ethics committee has to do with it. And all the while she is trying to crack jokes....either to comfort us or maybe herself. Whatever the reason, her comedic effect is really not working in this situation! She keeps telling us it will only be an hour or so more while she finishes up paperwork but the hours keep passing by. It's starting to get dark and her messages are becoming less and less frequent. She's starting to get unresponsive and we don't know if it is because she is trying to conserve the international text messaging expenses because she is in the clear or if something has really happened to her.

We wander around the hotel, guilty for not only having the luxury of companionship in this foreign country but also for being in a nice place when we are only imagining Jessica might be in much worse conditions. This is Jessica:

One of the sweetest and most innocent people I know. I don't know how she has gotten herself in this situation but she's in it and she's all alone in a foreign country and we have no idea what kind of people she is with.

Jessica keeps reassuring us that everything is going just fine, but we have little information to go with. She tells us she is going to be released from the airport very soon and that we should start making dinner reservations. We decide we need a drink instead.

We sit down at the hotel bar to grab a drink. A waiter, which turns out to the be the bartender....oh wait, excuse me, he is actually a professional mixologist, comes to our table almost instantly. He shows us the menu, but instantly tosses it aside as if it's as boring to him as the WSJ must be and says that he can make us anything we like....and if we really trust him he will make something perfect and if we don't like it, he'll make our usual drink for free, "It's a deal" he keeps saying. We aren't particularly sold on his concept being our first day in the land of crazy tequila, but he comes around about 5 times and finally breaks us down.
Bernie comes back with our drinks which actually turn out to be amazing. He also is highly entertaining and quite the smooth talker. We are really enjoying his conversation and it is helping us take our minds off of Jessica. It's almost 7 now and we haven't heard from her in about an hour or so even though Cilla asked her if everything was alright. I ask Cilla what the last thing Jessica said was and Cilla reminds me that she has a habit of deleting everything on her phone LOL. That was our last piece of evidence inside Jessica's world! We are starting to panic again, and think of plans of action. We turn to Bernie for help on this unusual matter. Cilla wants to go to the police station. I want to call the US Embassy. Cilla thinks if Jessica is still missing that Bernie will help us out once he gets off work. I remind her that he might not be our new bff since he is working for tips (story about that later too). The plans are getting wilder and wilder by the minute.

We send Bernie off to get a number for the US Embassy. Meanwhile we try to figure out when to start really panicking about Jessica.....
Stay tuned to see what happens in Cancun!!

Fun Bobby Becomes Domesticated (hahaha jk)

I think everyone would agree that I am the least domesticated out of the group. Not in an "unfeminine/bad taste/was not raised right" kind of way......but only because all of my friends are way over acheivers and I don't have the patience that they do to achieve at cooking, baking, decorating, sewing. I'm serious.....I am not even motivated half of the time to even try to accomplish what they can because I have never met a group of this many people who are extremely good at everything they take on!

And frankly also, achieving in those things is not a motivator for me since I don't have anyone in my life to share the fruits of my labor with. I like to live my life in stages and right now my stage of life is "spend as much money as I can to collect clothes and that I 'need' to be attractively single and go out as much as possible to meet nice boys".....or somewhere along that line. As my married friend Libby has put it once "you should collect as many clothes as you can before you get married because once you get married you won't be able to buy as many." I love this quote, and I use it to justify most purchases I should not be making. Nonetheless, that huge digression was merely meant to explain that I'm not domesticated not because I am not capable, but because I've always been a crammer in school and in life, and it is very differently than how my more organized friends approach their lives. Thus, right now I am cramming all of my singleness and in a few years I will probably have to start a new blog describing my disastrous efforts to "cram" learning how to cook/bake/clean/decorate/sew at the mercy of the poor souls who will be my future husband and children...aka my guiney pigs for life.

I truly admire all of my friends' amazing abilities. I am daily floored by how beautiful every one of Kiki's apartments are.....and I also brag to my friends at work that she was the one who baked the amazing cupcake they are eating. I am beyond impressed with Ann's headband creations and booming Etsy shoppe (I just really wanted to spell it that way). Mitzi's (and also Kiki's) sewing endeavers from her curtains to Katie's present are seriously in my mind creations of God because there is no way I will ever be able to do that. Katie's cooking and baking- well, let's just say that every time I read her blog I seriously wish she would adopt me and I am really jealous Mike gets to go along for her cooking adventures. Both my friends Shellie and Libby seem to be able to pretty much do anything with ease, which amazes me all the time....and is also why I am always asking for advice!

Anyway, this weekend I got a little domesticated myself. And here are some of the results that ensued .....all Fun Bobby style :)

Decorating:
I found an AMAZING painting at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I only paid $80 and it is something I know I will keep for life. If anyone knows me I think they will agree it is totally me and meant for me!!

VOILA!!!

wait, wait- here's it close up

and even closer!!!
I LOVE it- it's elegant, regal, asian meets tiffanys meets modern
You see this painting was perfect for me because I have been known to be obsessed with cherry blossoms. Before I had this painting, I had a picture of cherry blossoms that I had taken in April 2008 in DC up on the mantel that I had printed on to a canvas. Now this picture is sitting on top of some of my books in my room until it finds a more permanent home.

Groceries:
I also did some grocery shopping- here is what I saved tons of money on!!

All of my favorite wine was on a major sale! Iknow that these prices will never be any lower, so I had to stock up. ($6.99 for the Chauteau St. Michelle Riesling normally $8.99 and $9.99 for the Kate & Cassie Sauvignon/Cab blend normally $10.99 at Target) It was embarassing because I orginally attempted to buy these at 11:56am on Sunday. Yep, had to get rejected since you aren't allowed to buy alcohol before noon on Sunday in the Bible Belt. Believe it or not, I have never bought this much wine at one time just for myself.

Cooking:
I also did some minor cooking this weekend. Here was my Sunday lunch: butternut squash soup with lite whole wheat toast (tea sandwich size) with part skim ricotta cheese and black raspberry jam. Of course I did not make any of it from scratch- the Fun Bobby household is purely an assembly unit. The soup was from Campbell's V8 boxed soups (the butternut squash one is amazing, and I am thorougly obsessed with it). The lunch was just so colorful I had to take a picture of it! Estimated calories: 250. Estimated cost $2.70.

So there you have it. My guide to being domestic while still getting those nights out and ever important shopping excursions in.

This Spells Trouble....

I am SO excited! It is less than 3 weeks away until my good friends Jessica and Cilla and I venture off to Cancun SITC style. I know it is going to be a blast because between Jessica living so far away in Chicago and Cilla being perpetually lost behind a stack of K-1s in Dallas, it will be a rare time for all of us to really get to spend quality time together!

Cancun really won't be an MTV style event for us girls, and here are some reasons why:

1) We are all anal accountants
2) We all like to have a good time, but none of us really has a wild side
3) We are all over the age of 25
4) We are all taking this trip to get away from crappy busy seasons, so all we want to do is relax
5) Did I mention that Jessica can't drink more than a couple of sips of alcohol? lol
6) We are all paranoid about safety and cleanliness

To expand on #6 some more, Cilla and I had a funny conversation that would only happen between two type A accountants over the age of 25. We were talking about whether or not we wanted to venture out to the downtown bar scene. We immediately agreed that we had no desire for crazy spring break style adventures. We were also talking about our safety in general while over there in light of all of the recent things that have been happening, especially kidnappings. Knowing full well from other experiences with Cilla and traveling with some of my other friends, there was one thing I knew for sure: a group of cute asian girls stick out like a sore thumb in non eastern countries. Cilla and I were both thinking the same thing.....

me: "and also yeah i am concerned about safety....esp since we are three cute asian girls together, some how i feel like that is going to spell trouble"

Cilla: "yeah, and let's be honest, we don't look cheap -- that sounds weird but you know what i mean"

me: "yeah! that is definitely along the lines of what i had in mind yeah i know we look like good ransom money for kidnappers haha"

Cilla: precisely

So, you can expect to see us drunk on the beach by our hotel, or hopping from hotel lobby to hotel lobby along the strip....meeting other eccentric tourists. You can expect to see a hungover fun boby at breakfast and crazy stories about the weird goop they used on our faces at the spa, but there won't be an Girls Gone Wild moments for this trio of friends!

I know these predictions about Cancun might seem disappointing for you, my readers, but you must remember that I WILL come back with stories. The great thing about Fun Bobby is that I find the oddest/craziest experiences in sometimes the most unexpected places....plus I create the fun wherever I am.....and you just simply can't plan for those kinds of nights :)

3 more weeks!! Can't wait!!
